July- JTHM doll, a ramble, and a sneak peek?

Image
Heeey... I'm just never going to be consistent with online visibility. 🤷 But I do still exist! And I am making art, despite not having anything new listed anywhere. No worries, just being insular. I did kind of get stuck in a creative rut for awhile...well, it was more like burnt out with drawing. I have been messing around with doll customizing a lot more, which I have always been drawn to (no pun!) as it lets me flex my mixed media skills in a cohesive way. So, there are dolls to share: Showing my age here a little bit with this guy- Johnny the Homicidal Maniac Monster High doll!  He was a STRUGGLE- I had originally used a Deuce head, but in the end decided that it just was too angular and looked like the Joker from the Batman comics, so I ended up using an EAH Raven head- never personally liked the roundness of those doll's faces, but it was perfect for this project. I did have to cut the neck hole bigger- fitting for the character, I suppose. Nny comes with two knives an...

Late January Hello!

Image
Well, the holidays got the best of me. Between festivities, work, customs, and general duties, I did not update my blog, website, and even fell off my Sunday eBay auction routine :(  But I am back now, and I have a sneak peek of the next 2 Sunday auctions! Also, a bit of insight into my current projects, which were also taking up more time than I thought they would (my bad). First, the fresh new arts- this upcoming Sunday (February 2) I will be listing "Pebble Pixie" for auction on eBay with a starting bid of $8.50: and Sunday, February 9 will be "Cherry Blossom Fawn", same place, same starting bid: Generally I post them around 11am PST, though sometimes I am running a bit late...it depends on the work day (yes, I work weekends and I list things from my phone).   So, I have not updated my website/galleries with any new art or dolls, though I do have some that I need to get to (we will get back on the website update train in Feb!) A few new dolls, a few new fantasy...

August update- Flora the Fawn

Image
So, hello! This update is doll heavy, fair warning. For one thing, I have updated my custom doll gallery on the website- some new faces are there to be seen now! Not all the finished dollies are up there yet, like I keep saying I am behind with the updates (like, a YEAR behind) and I have a lot of art. But more so, I just don't want to be spending all my art time updating my website. I know that's hOw YOu mAKe MONey but I am still only mildly enticed by that sentiment.  Anyway, new dolls to behold can be found on my Doll Gallery  page- clicking on the thumbnails will bring you to their individual pages with more photos, a little write up, and details on outfits, shoes, and accessories. I also have a freshly finished doll that I've just listed for auction on eBay- HERE . Her name is Flora, and she is one of two sisters, the other will be coming along in a few weeks.) She is a very sunny fawn girl- I had this urge to go with a cottagecore theme. So here is a quick look at ...

Monster High Lagoona Lalaloopsy Doll, ACEO Sunday sneak peek, ++ ramblings

Uggh, hiii So...currently existing in a haze of frustration of myself. Well, I'd say it's more like a mist. Not too thick, just...annoying. Yes, I am annoyed at being continuously frustrated with myself. Does that make any sense? Who knows. SO, I have FINISHED some dolls! Emily the Strange is complete and pretty much ready to find a new home- I need to draft a listing for her, though I suspect I may run into a weird copyright issue trying to list her on eBay. I've already had issues trying to get her Certificate of Authenticity made up. (ramble happening) Normally, I order out for the doll COAs, as I wanted a nice, smooth, perfect looking card. However, the place I order from is refusing to print up her COA as it goes against their copyright policies...Fine, I will print one up myself, fiiine, ughhh.   Oh, the printer is out of ink. Right-o, I have another cartridge ready to go. Oh, well, it doesn't recognize the black cartridge. Cool, coolcoolcool. So, I am currently ...

NEW DOLL! Plus sneak peek, ramble, and some printed goods

Okay, well Happy April Fool's Day...  Something of note: I am very very partial to jesters and the classic "King's Fool" trope, and over the years have drawn TONS of jesters, clowns, jokers, and all sorts of strange-humored creatures...In fact, the little demon nymphs I've taken to drawing over the past while certainly have their roots in my jester art.   Of course, all I have to share today are pretty fairies (sorry lol!) but still...it is SPRINGTIME and I am ready to only have to wear one pair of pants when I go outside. There are flowers poking out through the mud now, and the other day I even saw a wasp!  So, I suppose the fairies are appropriate :) Very first, I have a Featured Art for April up on my website- she is a repainted Monster High Operetta doll going by Gloria now.  Fashioned after a purple poofy flower of some unknown variety, she is very pleased to make your acquaintance.  For more info on her, photos, and all her little details (what...

Poppy the Flower Fashionista - Monster High Art Doll

Image
Hi Hi! This is a doll post, so I forgive you if you have no interest ;)  But I wanted to show off my latest refurbished Monster High doll creation... I was needing some inspiration, so I looked up haute couture and found some fashions that were SO COOL, I just HAD to make a tiny version!   "Poppy" is her name, and I love how she turned out. LOVE IT, loved making this outfit SO MUCH. I also happen to love poppies, they are my favorite flower, so I tried to do them justice in the tiny changes of texture.  They are delicate but also quite bold, and it is that duality that I appreciate the most about them. So I tried to get all that into a doll.  The fashion inspiration was a huge help. Below, the only two progress shots I managed to remember to take during the creative process: I remove her head from her body, remove all her hair and face paint, cut off the top of her scalp, scrape out the remaining glue and hair bits (dollie brains) and then I CUT OUT HER EY...

Work In Progress- MH Repaint Lagoona to Lalaloopsy

Image
Dolls! Yeee!  An update on my latest doll repaint, with lots of work in progress photos.   I recently acquired a Lalaloopsy Furry Grrs-Alot Girl doll (the more "teenage" version of the line) after falling in love with her character many years ago.  I also have a mini version of her "kid" doll.  The doll shown below is mine, yes, she is unboxed, missing a belt and some accessories, and I don't care, I love her to pieces...  (furry grrs alot) Because I love her style so very much, I wanted to do a recreation/homage to her with a Monster High repaint.  So, I dug through my art doll box and decided on a Lagoona Blue doll for a base. Her sculpt has a nice, round face, pouty lips, and generous eyes. Given how little detail Lalaloopsy dolls have in their faces, I have a lot of decisions to make about how I want her new face to look.  So while that brainstorming is happening, I start working on her outfit first. (Lagoona pre ...

Billie the Love Goat- Monster High Doll Repaint

Image
I finished her! :D This is Billie- the Love Goat.   There is a full write up HERE on my website, with a little background story, her birthday, all the things she is made from, and a bunch of pictures.   She did not come out exactly as I had envisioned her- which was a very long time before I began working on her...For instance, the original coloring for her was gong to be red hair, and her legs would fade from lavender to red to black on the hooves.  She was kind of designed in a "dark valentine nymph" theme.  Her outfit was going to be sheer black, similar to what she has on now, but with a really big collar (I don't know what they are called, but think Evil Queen).  She was going to have spikey parks on her arms and ankles. But that was back in February of 2018. Then she sat, deconstructed, in a box next to my desk for the better part of 2018, after which I pulled her out of the pile and began sculpting her tail, horns, and ears. I had left he...

Doll Repaint- Making a Goat Nymph

Image
Hello! There are no finished pieces to post this week, mainly because I have been working on a new doll. So, I am here to post some work in progress photos of her- warning, nude doll parts and disembodied limbs! I deconstructed her months ago, so all the factory paint and hair removal has not been documented. Above, the body, with head removed. I also cut open the back of her head after removing her hair, as I want to give her 3D eyes. The little white balls you see are eyeball whites (sclera)- I will use the butt end of a small paintbrush to give them indents. Other supplies are bamboo skewers (to give her goat legs), some sanding implements, and some clay shaping tools. Also a random comb. I love how Monster High doll feet are shaped. Unfortunately, for this character, I had to remove them, as she will be getting hooves. You can see the base sculpt of them, along with her tail. I used bamboo skewers, tinfoil, wire, and florist tape to create a st...
